2017 Safety Competition Education Scholarship
 

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS AND INSTRUCTIONS

 

1. The applicant must either have participated in the 2017 School Bus Driver International Safety Competition in Indianapolis, Indiana or be the son or daughter of such driver.

2.The employee must have been employed by the same school district or school bus company for at least twelve (12) months prior to the application date.

3.The employee must still be employed by the same district or school bus contractor at the time of the scholarship award.  NSTA’s Industry Development Committee will verify employment.

4.The applicant may use the award for either educational (post-secondary education) or continuing educational purposes (i.e. seminar, training).  Preference will be given to programs with a school transportation industry focus, but this is not required.

5. Scholarship award(s) will be made by the National School Transportation Association’s  Industry Development Committee.

6.The completed application (including application, essay, driver and applicant resumes; and at least one letter of recommendation) must be mailed, faxed or emailed to:

7. The application must be postmarked, faxed or emailed no later than 11:59 pm on September 29, 2017 to be eligible for consideration.  The date and time stamp on the postmark, fax or email will serve as verification of this information.

8. Applicants will have one year from date of award to receive reimbursement.  After one year, the scholarship will expire.  




DOCUMENT REQUIREMENTS

1. An essay with your completed application explaining in 200 words or less why you deserve the 2017 Safety Competition Education Award.

2. Resume for the driver as well as the application if the applicant is a child of the driver.

3. At least one letter of recommendation. One letter should be from the driver’s employer if the driver is the applicant or the child’s school if the child is the applicant. 

The awardee(s) selected by the committee to receive the Safety Competition Educational Scholarship Award will be notified on or before October 30, 2017.  Disbursement of the SAFETY COMPETITION EDUCATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP AWARD will be upon submission of a paid bursar’s receipt or with an invoice due.  Disbursement can be done at any time after notification of award, but within the one year as required. In the case of an invoice due, payment will be made to the educational entity rather than the driver.
