SAFE DRIVER AWARDS 2020-2021
                   Driver Eligibility
 

1. PAID MEMBERS ONLY.  Sponsoring school bus contractors SHALL BE a current paid PSBA member of the fiscal year October 1, 2020 to September 30, 2021. The sponsoring contractor shall also have been a PSBA member since 2017.

2. YEARS OF DRIVING.  Drivers MUST have completed a minimum of five (5) consecutive years of driving a school bus with NO PREVENTABLE ACCIDENTS  on his/her record.  Awards will be given in multiples of 5 year increments only, i.e. 5 years, 10 years, 15 years, 20 years, 25 years, etc.
 
3. DEFINITION OF PREVENTABLE ACCIDENT.  PREVENTABLE ACCIDENT means the accident could have been prevented by reasonable action by the driver.  The following driver failures could constitute adequate grounds for ruling an accident preventable and means the driver must start over at zero years of Safe Driving for the purpose of this Award.
 
   
 FAILURE TO:
  • follow defensive driving practices;
  • adjust speed to condition of light, weather, road traffic;
  • recognize and adjust to driver's own temporary physical, mental and emotional condition;
  • observe conditions at rear of vehicle while backing;
  • yield right-of-way when necessary to avoid an accident;
  • control speed so as to be able to stop within assured clear distance ahead;
  • observe traffic laws and ordinances;
  • observe company operating rules or special instructions;
  • observe safe practices taught in company training.

      PLEASE NOTE:  Contractor determines final eligibility of driver!
 
4. DRIVER AWARD OPEN TO:  Awards program is open to present and former drivers of school buses in Pennsylvania. Driver NEED NOT be a current licensed driver to qualify for the Award
 
5. DRIVER EMPLOYER.  Driver need not have been employed for the same transporter for the entire period to qualify for the Award
 
6. EMPLOYER CODE OF ETHICS.  Driver qualifying for Award MUST meet the sponsoring school bus contractor's own Code of Ethics in their pupil transportation operation.
